A Gift That Outlasts Us

People often tell us the herd stayed with them long after they went home — an afternoon in the field, a horse who chose to stand close, an hour that asked nothing of them.

If you would like that to go on being possible for someone you will never meet, you can leave a gift to Lunar Eclipse in your will. There is no minimum, and no expectation. We simply wanted you to know it is something you can do.

What a Gift Would Do

Legacies are not spent on grand plans. They go into the ordinary, constant work of keeping a herd — hay through the winter, feed, farrier and vet bills, safe transport, and the upkeep of the space where sessions happen.

They also help us hold places open for people who could not otherwise afford to come. That is the part we can never budget for reliably, and the part a legacy protects best.

Before You Decide

We would rather be straightforward with you than let anything be assumed.

Lunar Eclipse EFL Therapy Horses CIC is a community interest company, not a registered charity. That distinction matters:

A gift to us does not qualify for the inheritance tax exemption that applies to gifts left to registered charities. It is treated as part of your estate.
We cannot advise you on your will. Please speak to a solicitor or a professional will writer, who can look properly at your circumstances.

We are working towards becoming a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), which would make us a registered Scottish charity. If and when that happens, the position above would change. We can’t promise a timescale, and nothing here should be relied on as though it had already happened.

It is worth mentioning to your solicitor that our legal form may change in future, so that a gift can be worded to follow the organisation and its work rather than resting on the company name alone.

Please ask your solicitor to use our full registered name together with the company number. It is the surest way of making certain a gift reaches us, and not a similarly named organisation. As above, do also mention that our legal form may change in future, so the wording can allow for that.

Common Questions

What kinds of gift are there?

Broadly three: a share of your estate once everything else has been dealt with, a fixed sum of money, or a specific item such as property or shares. Your solicitor will know which suits your circumstances.

Can I say what it should be used for?

You can express a wish, and we will always respect it. In practice, broadly worded gifts tend to be the most useful — a will may be written many years before it takes effect, and needs change over time.

Do I have to tell you?

Not at all. Some people like to let us know so we can thank them properly in their lifetime. Others would rather keep it private. Both are completely fine.

What if I change my mind?

Then you change your mind. A will can be updated at any time, and you never owe us an explanation.
