Eclipse of the Horse offers training for individuals who want to become qualified EFL (Equine Facilitated Learning) practitioners. Our programme combines hands-on experience with our therapy horses alongside professional development, drawing on the diverse expertise of our team — from NHS and paramedic services to education and other specialist fields.
What is EFL?
Equine Facilitated Learning is a therapeutic approach that uses interactions with horses to support emotional wellbeing, personal development, and learning. Horses are highly perceptive animals that respond to body language and emotion, making them powerful partners in helping people build confidence, manage anxiety, and develop communication skills.
Who Is This For?
Our training is designed for anyone with a passion for horses and helping others. Whether you come from a healthcare background, education, social work, or simply have a desire to make a difference, we welcome learners from all walks of life. No previous equine experience is required — just a willingness to learn.
What You'll Learn
Our programme covers the fundamentals of equine facilitated learning, including understanding horse behaviour, facilitating safe and meaningful horse-human interactions, session planning and delivery, safeguarding, and working with diverse client groups. You'll gain practical skills alongside our experienced team and our wonderful herd.
Our Approach
At Lunar Eclipse, the welfare of our horses always comes first. Our training reflects this — you'll learn how to work ethically with horses, recognising their needs and boundaries. We believe that when horses are happy and relaxed, they do their best therapeutic work, and our practitioners need to understand and uphold this.
Hands-On Experience
Training with us means working directly with the Hoofgang. You'll spend time with our horses in real sessions, observing and then leading activities under the guidance of our experienced practitioners. There's no substitute for hands-on learning, and our herd provides an incredible environment to develop your skills.
